Rimrock Outfitters shares the excitement and splendor of the Colorado’s Rockies!
Located at 8000′ elevation in the foothills of Colorado’s La Plata Mountains, Rimrock Outfitters offers horseback rides from one hour in length up to all day rides. Our trails wind through aspen, pine, and fir forests, along the west fork of the Mancos River, around alpine lakes, and into open mountain meadows with incredible views of the mountain peaks. The highest peak is Mt. Hesperus at 13,232′. The perfect way to view the splendor of the Rocky Mountains and see the wildlife is from the back of a horse. Be sure to bring your camera; our horses are used to them!
Our remuda contains well trained horses for the novice and for the experienced rider. The minimum age for trail riders is six years, but younger children may get a complimentary lead-around ride at the corral. Breakfast Ride Details
Bacon crackling in the pan, hot-off-the-griddle golden flapjacks swimming in Lynne’s homemade syrup, and fresh ranch eggs are all cooked over an open fire. Orange juice and real cowboy coffee top it off. Wake up with a Rimrock Outfitters breakfast ride and treat yourself to the best breakfast experience you ever had in the high mountains of Colorado!
Meet at the corral at 8 a.m. to get acquainted with our horses, and saddle up for an hour ride through Colorado’s alpine forests and meadows, viewing the La Plata Mountain peaks and Rocky Mountain wildlife along the way.
When we arrive at the breakfast cookout, the coffee is brewing and the cook has the bacon sizzling in the pan. In fact, we usually get a whiff of the bacon cooking on the trail before we arrive. That 22″ skillet and those griddles sure hold a lot of our fresh ranch eggs and golden fluffy pancakes! If ya’ go hungry on a Rimrock Outfitters’ breakfast ride, it’s your own fault! Lynne has perfected her own secret trail ride pancake recipe and she makes her own special syrup. By the way, it doesn’t take much water to make Perry’s cowboy coffee.
Be sure to make your reservations for the breakfast ride at least 12 hours in advance. We serve fresh ranch eggs! After everyone has had their fill, we mount up and ride around Weber Lake back to the ranch. It’s about a half hour back. That way, you don’t have to ride as long on a full stomach.
Dinner Ride Details
If you are looking for the ultimate cowboy experience for your family, there’s nothing like fresh mountain air and the fragrance of steaks cooking over an open fire! Select cuts of world famous Colorado beef, expertly grilled over an open fire with all the fixin’s. The Colorado Rockies provide the atmosphere and we provide the horses and food. Meet at the corral at 4 p.m. for the horse orientation. Enjoy your one hour horseback ride through our beautiful alpine scenery. Build up an appetite then relax and enjoy an authentic Colorado cowboy-style meal!!!
Our Rimrock Outfitters Cookout: Top sirloin steaks (or chicken if you prefer) cooked outdoors, over a bed of hot coals! The cookout menu continues with cowboy beans, fried potatoes, and spiced peaches for dessert, Texas toast, campfire coffee strong enough to float a horseshoe, and lemonade for those timid souls among us! Reservations need to be made no later than 9:00 am so we’ll have time to prepare the best trail ride cookout adventure you ever had!
Bring your appetite and a jacket because once the sun gets low in the western sky, the high country can get chilly. We’ll bring out the guitar and the bass washtub for some cowboy songs around the campfire. Even if you can’t carry a tune in a bucket, you’re welcome to join in. Then it’s “back in the saddle again” for the half-hour ride around the lake back to the ranch.
